Time for a Touch of Cinnamon! Recipes to follow!

As you all know, I love food, but one of my favorite staples in my pantry is CINNAMON!! I add cinnamon to everything! Including cereal, toast, fruit, chicken, anything that needs a little touch of, well I call it "YUM". So cinnamon is my touch of "YUM" I know I must not be the only one like this, as I seem to be convinced that cinnamon is as American as Apple Pie...see even Apple Pie has cinnamon..or at least the ones I make or eat! :)

So I was looking for some awesome unique cinnamon inspired recipes and found a bunch that sound delicious that I want to share with you! These were found on www.kitchendaily.com
I will share a new Cinnamon recipe daily this weekend!

1st Recipe: Cinnamon Poached Pears with Vanilla Bean Ice Cream
Ingredients:
  • 4 medium sized pears, ripe but firm (Bosc or Anjou work well)
  • 3 cups port wine
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 lemon
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1 quart vanilla bean ice cream

  • Directions:

Begin by creating the poaching liquid. In a medium saucepan combine wine, water, sugar, and spices. Using a vegetable peeler remove 1 strip of zest from the lemon and add to the pot. Cut lemon in half and squeeze juice into the pot also. Set over high heat and bring to a boil as you stir.

Take a sharp knife and cut off a small slice from the bottom of the pear so it has a stable base. Using an apple corer, or the tip of a paring knife, carefully remove the core from the bottom. Peel the pears but leave the stems attached.

Place the pears in the poaching liquid and reduce heat to a simmer. Cook for 10-12 minutes until just tender and the tip of a paring knife goes through with a little resistance. Stir occasionally so the pears color and cook evenly all over. The cooking time will vary depending on the ripeness of the pears. Shut off heat and allow pears to cool in the poaching liquid. Once pears have cooled removed them from liquid. Pour half of the liquid into a container and reserve for another use. Bring the remaining liquid back to a boil on stove top and reduce by half. Serve warm or place all in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 2 days.

Serve pears standing upright in a bowl with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream and a ladle full of the reduced poaching liquid.

    Enjoy my idea of YUM

Kevin Mengel Jr Benefit Month...Reminder & Follow Up

From someone who didn't personally know Kevin, I have been so extremely touched at the generosity of The Bistro's customers. After reading stories, hearing memories, and sharing personal moments from some people through email, I feel as I know Kevin a bit without ever haven met him in person.
Starting in July we deemed the entire month Kevin Mengel Jr Month and for those who came in and mentioned his name, we would donate 50% of the bill to Kevin Mengel Jr's Children's Trust Fund and also would give the patron 50% off their bill.
I can't stress enough how positive this benefit has been. I hope we can continue to raise funds for this family. We have been very pleasantly surprised by a visit by Kevin's father and I must tell you, that truly put an entirely new emotional connection to this event for all of us. I again this morning received an email from a friend of Kevin's, thanking us for what we were doing. Is it wrong that I really felt like thanking him? For allowing us to be a part of this, and for allowing us to help these children? I feel so lucky to do something, small in the scheme of things but at least I hope meaningful non the less.

So please continue to come in and help raise money for Kevin's children. So many of you have refused the 50% discount off your meal, but we have saved those funds and will be donating them to Kevin's fund too!

I will update everyone a the end of the month with the total funds raised.

Thank you again and never forget to "Pay it Forward"

Thank you to Michele from Atlanta..fabulous review!

Every week I check reviews that customers write about The Bistro, as it really does matter to everyone involved how happy our clients are. This week I came across a review from Michele. I heard about this booking from day 1 and thought wow, to book The Bistro sight unseen all the way from GA, this lady must really trust us...and per her review I think she made the right choice. I tried to cut out bits and pieces to just show you a few short sentences but think her review deserves to be heard.
Thank you Michele for allowing The Bistro to be a memory for your entire family!

    A Hidden Gem in Exton

by Michele from Atlanta at Citysearch

I live in Georgia and was planning a 75th birthday party in PA. Time was running out and I desperately needed a venue. I found The Bistro at Our Town on Citysearch and read the reviews. I then called and spoke to the owner Ashley and decided this was the place. I booked the place sight unseen! This was in March, fast forward to June. I COULD NOT HAVE ASKED FOR A BETTER EXPERIENCE!!! What can I say Ashley and her staff were the best! I flew in early; we reviewed the final menu, I was able to taste a few dishes and boy was I hooked! The entire staff was so accommodating, so friendly, so kind. I heard over and over again from the guests how they enjoyed themselves. Everything was delicious from the hors d'oeuvres to the main course! Oh I forgot, a big storm hit and the restaurant lost power the day before the party...however I found out they had a backup plan and generators in place if needed. My favorite part was the slideshow I emailed to Jillian that ran throughout the party; pictures were also taken during the party and uploaded into the slideshow! I cannot thank Ashley, Jillian and Tina enough for their hard work and for helping to make the party a success.

Whenever I'm home, I plan to make a trip to The Bistro at Our Town for a good meal!

Thanks again, and please feel free to submit your own reviews on citysearch.com We value and appreciate all opinions!!

    Tuscan Tables...every Friday..Back to the basics..Italian Style!

Most of you know we have Tuscan Table every Friday night at The Bistro. It has been extremely successful and our chefs have created some amazing dishes for all to enjoy. But this summer we are going back to basics...and when I say basics I mean the basics of Italy. The "new" Tuscan Tables are not going to be inspired by Italy, they will be 100% traditional Italian dishes. No more American versions or a hint of USA in any of the meals, Tuscan Table will be the traditional Italian version of what so many Americans dream to have! There will be less sauces and more fresh tomatoes and herbs.

So if this summer you weren't able to schedule in a few weeks in Tuscany, please join us to sample what you missed. We will bring Tuscany to you right here in Chester County.

I can't get over the freshness and liveliness in last week's menu. I must admit, it reminds me of Italy, the scents, the aromas, and the tradition. Come join us this Friday, reservations are required: 484-872-8793! Here is a sample of last week's menu, it is sure to get your taste buds kicking!

Stuffed Garlic Bread, with Mozzarella : this is the REAL garlic bread like you have never had before!
Traditional Italian Salad, with Olive Oil, Vinegar, Red Onions
Pasta course: Homemade Spaghetti with White Clam Sauce

Main Course: Lasagna Bolognaise, (this is from Bologna Italy) NO CHEESE in Lasagna there. It is layered with Bechamel Sauce (White Sauce) and Bologanaise. Topped with slight dusting of Romano Cheese then baked crisp on the outside to a creamy inside.
Chicken Paillard topped with Sun dried Tomatoes, Proscuitto, and Goat Cheese Mousse, topped with a Vodka Pink Sauce

    Cold Broccoli Salad (super traditional)

Dessert: And this topped it all off....inhale the amazing scents of: Lemon Tiramasu and Canolli Ice Cream atop Fresh Hot Brownie!

So with that on your mind, call and make your reservations. Tuscan Table is great for date nights, family reunions, family dinners out, reconnecting with friends and any other event that needs some spice behind it. We will see you in Tuscany...Chester County that is!
