Don't get sunburn but if you do...home remedies !!

This weekend tons of people will forget to put on sunscreen and they will burn up just like the fireworks you will see in the sky. Be smart....if you are going to enjoy the beauty of the sun...prepare your body and don't forget sunscreen, a nice sun hat, sun glasses and cool cotton clothing!

If for any silly reason you happen to get burned, and this does happen even to the best of us...here are some home health remedies to help.

1. Pickles: Doesn't matter what kind, dill or sweet both work! Svetlana Kogan, M.D., board certified internist and founder of The Doctors at Trump Place recommends applying thin slices of pickles for about 15 minutes and repeating every few hours as necessary.

2. Strawberries: We probably all know how delicious strawberry daiquiris are, but did you know that they soothe aching, sunburned skin? Strawberries are cooling in nature and generate body fluids which are helpful after too much fun in the sun, says Kristen N. Burris, acupuncturist and herbalist. Make a paste from mashed strawberries and apply to burned skin.

3. Cucumbers: We all remember many of movies showing cucumbers being used on eyelids to reduce puffiness so realizing they would work on sunburn is pretty much a no brainer. Slice cucumbers into thin rounds and place over red sunburned area for twenty minutes.

4. Oatmeal: We know oatmeal is great for breakfast and a nutritious food to add to our diets but it's nutritious for your skin, too! Dr. Alexiades-Armenakas notes, "This has been used in baths to help soothe atopic dermatitis (eczema) and poison ivy." For proper sunburn relief, she recommends the Aveeno oatmeal bath packets which should be put into a bath of warm but not too hot water for about 15 minutes.

5. Green Tea: So make yourself a cup of tea, and once cooled the tea can be applied to sunburned skin to reduce the redness," says Dr. Alexiades-Armenakas. "This is scientifically proven. Or, you can place green tea in the refrigerator, put it into a spray bottle and spray it onto sun burnt skin." She also mentions that after black tea bags are cooled, they're an excellent antidote to reduce sunburned eye puffiness. Simply apply to the eyes for 20 minutes.

6. Potatoes: If your skin has been overexposed to the sun, Dr. Burris recommends applying a poultice of smashed, raw potato (including the skin) to the hot, burned area of your skin. She notes, "Potato reduces inflammation and has antibiotic properties healing burns and preventing infection."

7. Eggs: Some doctors say to stay away other health nut say eat up the protein but for your skin--it's great! When they're boiled, scrambled or fried, eggs are also good for the skin. Eric Braverman, M.D., founder of PATH Medical, says eggs tighten your skin. "A little bit of egg treatment helps with inflammation." Burris adds, "Crack an organic egg, discarding the egg white and yolk. Carefully remove the skin membrane from the shell and apply the sticky side to your burned skin. Allow the egg skin to dry on your burn and do not get it wet for two days. Eventually the egg will dissolve and your burns will be healed."

8. Corn Strach: Dr. Erika Schwartz, M.D., Cinergy Health Medical Director, recommends applying corn starch powder as if it's powder you would use on a baby's diaper rash, only this time it's applied to the sunburned skin. "Dust it like powder and cover [the burn], leave it on until you shower." She recommends leaving it on for 24 to 48 hours.

9. Lettuce: Let-us have some relief! "Take a head of lettuce, boil it in water, discard the leaves, and let the juice sit in the refrigerator," explains Dr. Schwartz. Next, she recommends applying the juice to cotton balls and dabbling it on to the burn and reapplying every few hours as necessary. "Vitamin C has great antioxidants and it fights free radicals."

So most of us have one or more of these natural remedies in their kitchens, so hopefully you won't ever need them but if you get burned a bit....try them out! Remember if you have a bad sunburn contact your doctor or get to the ER--you could also experience sun poisoning.

Be careful, enjoy the sun and celebrate the 4th in a fabulous and safe way!!

Kid's Lunch & A Movie...Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs: July 28th 11:45am-2pm

Prepare to get Served......
Date: Wednesday July 28th
Time: 11:45am-2pm
What: Lunch & A Movie----for kids!
Movie: Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
Price: $10/child includes full lunch, beverages, popcorn, candy, dessert and favors
...and of course the movie is free!
(parties of 12 or more: $8.00/child)

The Bistro wanted to find a fun activity to do for kids during the summer heat. I have heard so many of you attend the "Free" Movie at the local theaters, well this is even better!! Those movies are free but you still must pay for the popcorn, soda and such, plus provide your own lunch before or after the movie. So....The Bistro has stepped it up! Grab the kids, and you don't have to pack a thing, not even a pack of crackers to sneak in, :) This event only costs $10 a child and includes a full lunch, beverages, popcorn, candy and dessert, and a great party favor--and the movie is free! :)

So the kids will arrive to a great decorated area of The Bistro, just you wait!! They will then order their lunch off of a special menu for this event. Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs will start as they are finishing up their lunches. While the movie starts, they will be given popcorn and candy to enjoy. We will break for an intermission, while enjoying a fun activity that will involve their dessert. Then the movie will be back and at the end of the movie, each child will be given a fabulous favor, again...related to food! :)

Parents are invited to join us for lunch...of course you can order off the regular lunch menu, or you can just enjoy the movie

Please email ourtownexton@aol.com to reserve your spot!

Limited Tickets available, so book early!

All children enjoying lunch must buy a ticket. You can gladly bring along children under 2 to enjoy the movie, and you can bring their lunch if you would like.

See you at the movies~~

Dinner & A Movie...A Good Year: July 10th

When was the last time you actually went out on a date? The last time you and your baby, lovey, pumpkin, pookie, monkey, or whatever goofy name you two call each other spent time out of the house together, without work or the kids interfering in just your time together?

So many of us get caught up in the day to day grind that we forget to stop and take time to really enjoy our "mates". We take all this time trying to find the right person, and when we finally do, we don't spend the time we should on keeping the flame alive. I think especially when you have kids, you put your romantic life on hold and worry about changing diapers, registering for kindergarten, car pools, the PTA, and all the other fun things involved in being a parent. But lets be honest, we need to enjoy ourselves too. I am at fault at putting our relationship second to being a parent to a child who needs us 100% of the time and depends on us for life's basic needs, food, clothing and love. I feel guilty when I go out and really I know I shouldn't but I do. So we have to force ourselves to take couple time. We have to start making sure to jot down a date night at least once a month on our ever growing calendars and date planners, add it to our blackberries and iphones and make sure to post it on facebook. ;) We somehow find time to update everyone from high school about little Madison's first steps and everyone at work about the affair going on behind the CEO's closed doors, so we can surely find a few hours for our significant others.
If you are grinding your teeth annoyed, saying you haven't found that perfect match yet, then take the time out for yourself and bring a friend. It doesn't matter who you decide to bring along, just make sure you bring someone you can enjoy a movie and dinner with. You deserve it!

Now that that is out of the way...let me help you plan your first date night! The Bistro is hosting Dinner & A Movie, and we are hoping to make this a regular event.

The Movie will be Russell Crowe's A Good Year. What a fabulous movie to watch on a big screen in the atmosphere of The Bistro. Tickets will be $25 a person and will include a 4 course meal, popcorn, candy and the movie included!

BYOB your own vodka and The Bistro will make you a Lemoncello cocktail on the house!

Movie will be shown on The Bistro's new projection screen!!

July 10th 6:30pm

Event Schedule:

6:30pm Hors d'oeuvres
7pm-7:45pm Dinner & Movie
8pm-30 minute Intermission
8:30pm-9:30pm Movie resumes

Vendor of the Day...offering SPA NIGHT & $100 IN PRODUCTS!!!

So proud to welcome another wonderful vendor to The Bistro family. With a slogan like "Beauty with Benefits" you might get the wrong impression, as sometimes when hearing "with benefits" you think "Ok, What's the catch" There isn't one this time! If you want to look and feel beautiful, I have the woman who can help do it! And not to even mention the health benefits, there is that word again !

Please help me welcome.....

ARBONNE INTERNATIONAL

Joanne Galloway.....Arbonne Independent Consultant

So when trying to tell you about our new vendor Joanne...the first word that popped into my head about her was SPUNKY! Being that I don't meet the vendors normally, I do the behind the scenes online work, I only communicate through email. If you watch the show Criminal Minds, think "Penelope Garcia", that's me, sitting behind this screen trying to connect customers to The Bistro and it's amazing resources of fabulous food and vendors!!

I have to tell you, Joanne is FUN!! Her emails reflect it and I can't wait for you to experience ARBONNE with her. When I asked Joanne for some insight on what she is looking to promote and do with The Bistro's customers, she didn't hesitate to tell me all about Arbonne and about how she can help YOU. I really feel like Joanne not only loves her business but loves helping others experience the joy she has found in Arbonne's products. I will not bore you with a 3 page paper on why, what and how Arbonne works, that is Joanne's job. I will tell you that Joanne is the best person to get in touch with if you are interested in a product that has been around for 30 years, and during those 30 years continue to be free of chemical fragrance, animal products, mineral oils and are 100% VEGAN. Honestly one of the biggest pulls for me is that they DO NOT TEST ON ANIMALS. Let's be honest, who really wants a health or beauty product that is ok for us because it was tested on Micky Mouse or Bugs Bunny. It's just not right, I love this companies way of building an empire using safe, and ethical ways. All of their botanicals are grown in the hillsides of Switzerland, but are MADE IN THE USA!!!

SPECIAL OFFER FOR BISTRO CUSTOMERS!!

FREE SPA EXPERIENCE PLUS $100 IN PRODUCTS OF YOUR CHOICE!!

Call or email Joanne and mention The Bistro. You are being offered a FREE spa pampering experience. Joanne will come out and totally pamper you, but not only that, if you have a few friends or family over to join in the fun...you receive $100 in FREE Arbonne products...your choice of products!!

So for those of you who just want to figure out what Arbonne is, do this and get a fun night and free products. If you are getting married, need a fun way to start a Bachelorette Party, having a baby and want to get pampered, call and set up a fun Baby Bump Beauty Night!!

And check out events, Joanne has setup a fun Spa Night at The Bistro...come out and enjoy!!
